The Information Technology Office provides IT support and services to more than 12,000 government employees.

With the advent of new technologies, security and privacy have become major issues of concern with the public. The protection of private information and security of the systems that house that information are an ongoing priority for governments around the world.

The ITO developed government-wide security policies based on international standards and continues to spearhead security issues across government. The ITO is collaborating with all ministries and agencies on implementing policies and procedures that protect the information the province has been entrusted with by citizens, business and other governments.

In order to protect the integrity of government systems and the information entrusted to the province, the ITO conducts regular security audits and vulnerability testing on its network, employs intrusion detection software and a wide array of other technologies, such as spam firewalls and standard virus software.
