A new government-wide antivirus solution is protecting citizen information and greatly improved IT system security.

The ITO has been the lead organization in designing and implementing CommunityNet, Saskatchewan's world-class, high-speed Internet system. Thanks to CommunityNet, people in every educational institution, health care facility, library and government office in 366 communities throughout Saskatchewan now have the world at their fingertips. It is providing Saskatchewan people with Internet access unsurpassed by any jurisdiction on the planet.

Following the successful completion of Phase 1, new wireless technologies were used as part of CommunityNet Phase 2, to provide high-speed Internet access to even more communities and more individuals across the province. SaskTel ideployed 57 wireless transmission sites around the province that will ensure individuals and businesses in some 600 communities have access to high-speed through wired and wireless technologies. Currently, 92% of Saskatchewan residents have access to high-speed, making the province one of the most wired jurisdictions on the planet.

To ensure Saskatchewan remains a leader in broadband access and technologies, the province rolled out Saskatchewan! Connected – a Wi-Fi based wireless service in the province's four largest centres in 2007.

CommunityNet was made possible through a partnership of public and private sector agencies, including the ITO, SaskTel, Saskatchewan Government Services, Saskatchewan Community Network (SCN), Saskatchewan Education, Saskatchewan Health, school divisions, and health districts.
